Global Warming and Arctic/Antarctic Animals

Did you know that global warming affects polar bears? Polar bears are strong swimmers, but when the iceberg that they're fishing on breaks off from the glaciers, the polar bears drown trying to swim back. Many people say that leopard seals can't drown. But that's not true. Leopard seals need to come up through the ice to breath. But they also need to hunt. A large part of a leopard seal's diet consists of penguins. If global warming kills all of the penguins, there would be a lot less leopard seals around. Animals like beluga whales live in the cold seas near the ice caps. The rising temperature will affect the water temperature, too, and then all the sea life in the cold water will be affected. We would lose a lot of animal species, and not just ones on land.

  1. Some people are saying that we should move the polar bears to Antarctica..... what do you think of that?

  2. Because they would eat all the cute little penguins! Actually, if polar bears are introduced to Antarctica then it will take down the overall penguin population is certain areas. But if the Arctic melts, then I hope that polar bears and those cute Arctic foxes are taken somewhere else- possibly Greenland or Antarctica.
